Cotinus ‘Golden Spirit' is a Dutch selection that is the first golden-leaved Smoketree. The bright golden leaves will not burn in full sun as many golden leaves plants are prone to do. In fact, coloring is best in full sun. The large, mid-summer flower panicles are incredibly ornamental and reminiscent of puffs of smoke, hence the common name. Fall color is outstanding. It usually grows 6-10' tall and as wide, however it can be easily kept more compact through annual pruning and can even be kept small enough for patio containers.
